Durham Workshop Launches Only Morgan Car Dealership In North England
An internationally renowned car sales and restoration workshop is driving new business after teaming up with another British motoring heavyweight.
County Durham-based Aston Workshop has joined forces with Macdonald Racing to launch Beamish Morgan Ltd, the only Morgan car dealer in the North of England, whilst still retaining its existing business.
Beamish Morgan Ltd is the first dealership in the UK to launch the carefully modernised famous Morgan 3-wheeler, which has not been in production since the 1930s. It retails at £30,000.
The 3-wheeler has many high profile fans, including Jay Leno, the host of the USA's Tonight Show, who said: "When you drive a car like this, 40 miles per hour feels like 200, and that's the fun of it really. You get that wonderful sensation of speed, you're close to the ground - you can scrape your knuckles as you go along. It's sort of... the ultimate motorcycle. It just makes you smile."
Both the Aston Workshop and Macdonald Racing are internationally recognised specialists, welcoming visitors from around the world on a regular basis. More than 90 per cent of the Aston Workshop's sales come from overseas with a large proportion coming from the USA, Europe and Asia.
Bob Fountain, owner of Aston Workshop, said: "We're delighted to be extending our services by working with Macdonald Racing, another long-established specialist classic car company in the North East, and we're particularly looking forward to launching the fantastic Morgan 3-wheeler.

"Beamish Morgan Ltd will be based at the Aston Workshop, which has provided globally renowned restoration services for over 23 years and will continue with international trade of fabulous Aston Martin models. It's great that Morgan customers will now also be able to benefit from the world class facilities we have here."
Macdonald Racing was founded by John Macdonald, who has raced and looked after Morgan cars for over 45 years. In the early 1960s John worked in engineering and raced a Morgan as a hobby. As a result of his successes, other competitors asked him to tune their cars, and in 1966 he was appointed Morgan dealer by Peter Morgan.
John said: "I'm so pleased to be launching Beamish Morgan Ltd, which will bring more space and scope to Macdonald Racing. I've known Bob for a long time and we felt that this was the ideal time to enhance both businesses, especially as the car brands, Aston Martin
and Morgan, fit so well together.
"Since 1966 we have been the Morgan Main Dealer for the North East, and we're looking forward to bringing our skills, together with expert knowledge about pre-war Lagonda cars, to Beamish Morgan Ltd. It will be the premier car business of its kind in the North East."
The six staff from Macdonald Racing will be moving to the Aston Workshop premises in Beamish, which received a £250,000 investment in staff training and infrastructure last year. Several enhancements have been made including a completely new reception area and retail outlet, two brand new service bays and a state-of-the-art diagnostic area.
